EUt+ Sustainability Office (SO)

The EUt+ Sustainability Office (SO) section is the digital face and communication platform for the Sustainability Management of EUt+. It promotes transparency, accessibility, collaboration, and education around the university’s sustainability goals and initiatives. It will reflect EUt+’s commitment to becoming an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable university aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

About

The EUt+ Sustainability Office (SO) is aiming at fostering sustainability collaborations across EUt+. It serves as a central hub to coordinate efforts, strategies, and actions towards creating an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable university model. The SO addresses the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) to advance the European vision of becoming a climate neutral economy by 2050. It supports the alliance to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies at all levels within EUt+. The EUt+ SO consists of at least one representative of each partner institution with the expertise and background relevant for the role.

Vision

The vision of the EUt+ SO is to empower a new generation of European citizens by fostering an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future through education, research, and campus practices.

Mission

The EUt+ Sustainability Office (SO) is dedicated to embedding sustainability into the core values and daily operations of EUt+. By coordinating efforts across partner institutions, the SO promotes environmental collaboration, systemic change, and resilience through strategy, education, and innovation.

Purpose of the EUt+ SO

The SO links the Sustainability/Green Offices of each EUt+ members or, in the absence of formal Sustainability Offices, departments having partner representatives where expertise and responsibilities of sustainability align with EUt+ SO objectives. It develops a methodology for measuring the impact of the SDGs across curricula, research and EUt+ operations as a whole.

The EUt+ SO exists to bring together people involved in work that concerns sustainability within the partner institutions to collaborate and drive the ambitions of EUt+ to accelerate its development of an inclusive, equitable and sustainable university model. To fulfill the ambitions on developing an ESG framework for EUt+, it is necessary to create a transnational office that will coordinate the strategy and actions of issues on sustainability.

Key functions

The EUt+ SO orients its activities around diverse key functions, as follow:
  • Policy and Strategy: Develops and defines strategies for green transitions within EUt+.
  • Support: Collaborates with and supports teams within/outside EUt+ to create sustainable practices and infrastructure.
  • Advisory Role: Provides guidance on sustainability issues, including student mobility, curricula, and research labs.
  • Data Management: Collects, evaluates, and reports data on sustainability indicators.
  • Awareness Building: Promotes sustainability through communication,, workshops, events and stakeholder engagement.

Indicators for Sustainability

The objectives of the EUt+ Sustainability Office include monitoring the number of internal events and workshops organised on topics related to sustainability, fostering peer learning and the exchange of good practices with other higher education institutions, and taking specific actions for sustainability. They also include the co‑development of joint indicators with relevant external stakeholders to help assess progress towards a green transformation, as well as the creation of a knowledge bank on approaches to sustainability. At the same time, the EUt+ SO aims to develop activities in order to contribute to the discussion and debate at the European level, while ensuring at least one capacity‑building activity per year related to digital and green transformations. In addition, the office aims to support a share of final degree projects in applicable EUt+ programmes that map their impact in the Sustainable Development Goals, and to ensure that at least half of the research outputs of EUt+ projects are mapped to the SDGs.
