European University Alliance Starter Pack
What is a European University Alliance ?
The European Universities alliances are part of a flagship initiative of the European strategy for universities. They encompass 65 European Universities alliances with more than 570 higher education institutions of all types, from all across Europe. By developing long-term structural and strategic and sustainable cooperation between the higher education institutions in the European Universities alliances, the initiative aims to
- improve the international competitiveness of higher education institutions in Europe
- promote European values and identity
The initiative has the potential to bring greater benefits to higher education institutions than any previous cooperation projects.
As of July 2025, there are 65 European University Alliances.
EUt+ as a European University Alliance
From the start, EUt+ adopted the motto “Think Human First”, signaling that its mission goes beyond technical excellence. The alliance set out to train engineers who are not only experts in their fields but also conscious of societal needs, sustainability, and ethical responsibility. Each member—UTT in France, TUDublin in Ireland, UPCT in Spain, h_da in Germany, UTCN in Romania, CUT in Cyprus, TUS in Bulgaria, and UNICAS in Italy—brought its own history and expertise. Together, they envisioned an open, borderless environment where students, researchers, and staff could circulate freely, learn from one another, and co‑create solutions to Europe’s grand challenges. As the alliance matured, EUt+ began to shape concrete initiatives. It launched work on joint curricula, aiming to offer students a truly European degree that blends academic rigor with practical, multicultural experience. Pilot programs for mobility windows were introduced, enabling students to study across partner universities without administrative barriers. In research, EUt+ built networks around shared priorities such as digital transformation, green technologies, and smart cities, creating a common platform where ideas and resources flow easily between countries.
EUt+ structure
The EUt+ alliance is structured as a network of eight partner universities working under a shared governance model. At the top sits a Presidents’ Board, bringing together the rectors or presidents of each institution to steer overall strategy. Beneath it, thematic working groups and task forces handle areas like education, research, mobility, and student engagement, ensuring coordinated action across campuses. Each university keeps its autonomy while aligning policies through joint committees and a common roadmap, allowing EUt+ to function as a single, integrated European University while staying rooted in local contexts.

The European University Alliances, including EUt+, base the way they work and are organised on recommendations made by the European Commission through a wide range of documents and others.
