Dates

from January 8, 2026 to January 9, 2026

As part of the activities of the ECT Lab+, the European Research Institute developed within EUt+, partners of the EpiCo project met in person in Dublin for a transnational project meeting hosted by Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin).

ECT Lab+ provides a collaborative framework for experimenting with new educational models, innovative learning formats, and competence development approaches across EUt+ partner institutions. Within this context, EpiCo is developed as one of the lab’s project-based initiatives, contributing concrete pedagogical experimentation and interdisciplinary educational design.

The Dublin meeting brought together academic teams from across the partner institutions to review progress, coordinate upcoming activities, and strengthen collaboration within the project. Beyond operational discussions, the gathering offered a shared space to deepen a common vision of rethinking technological education through interdisciplinary, sustainable, and socially responsible approaches.

EpiCo is strategically aligned with ECT Lab+, one of EUt+’s key innovation and experimentation frameworks. ECT Lab+ serves as a space for testing new educational concepts, learning formats, and competence development models that can inform broader transformation processes within the EUt+ alliance.

Through its focus on interdisciplinary learning, sustainability, and responsible technology, EpiCo directly contributes to this mission. The project aims to generate methodologies, learning modules, and pedagogical models that are compatible with EUt+ ambitions in areas such as sustainability, STEAM education, and innovative teaching and learning.

The Dublin meeting marked an important step in consolidating this shared vision and in strengthening cooperation between partners as the project moves into its next implementation phase.

EpiCo: Epistemology and Ecology in Technological Education

EpiCo is an Erasmus+ project developed within the framework of ECT Lab+ activities. It explores the intersection of epistemology and ecology in technological education and seeks to redefine how technology is taught and understood by integrating perspectives from art, culture, science, ethics, and sustainability into engineering and technical curricula.

EpiCo responds to the growing need for new educational models that address ecological and societal challenges, including sustainability, ethical responsibility, and cultural integration. By promoting a more holistic understanding of technology, the project aims to prepare students and educators to engage with complex global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and responsible innovation.

Running from September 2023 to August 2026, the project involves TUCN, TU Dublin, RTU, UPCT and UTT. Each partner contributes specific expertise, enabling EpiCo to develop a shared educational framework grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration and European cooperation.

Objectives and activities

EpiCo’s main goal is to develop educational frameworks that integrate alternative epistemologies into technical education and promote sustainable and responsible technology use. This is achieved through:
  • Promoting interdisciplinary skills, combining art, science, and technology
  • Developing innovative educational models, integrating ecological, ethical, and cultural dimensions into technical curricula
  • Encouraging responsible technology design, aligned with sustainability and social responsibility principles
